Another Push on Antibiotic and Hormone Free School Food – LA Unified

Excellent news from California, where the LA Unified School District (LAUSD), is undertaking an initiative to source chicken with no antibiotics or hormones into the school lunch program there. The details can be found in this article at Seedstock (often a good source for school food news). As LAUSD is part of the Urban School Food Alliance, there is an opportunity for the lessons learned to be shared in the broader national community.

Note that the article identifies Tyson as pledging to remove “human” antibiotics from its chicken in 2017, so progress on that front, although we are left wondering what “human” antibiotics means. Anyway, hoping this is the continuation of a shift away from over use of antibiotics and hormones in our school food sources.
